LinumTube - Opened flax multi-layer fabric as a sustainable design element.
LinumTube is a collaborative research project between the design studio Studio Jonathan Radetz and the Fraunhofer WKI from Germany. The core idea is to create ecologically, sustainable seating furniture for circularity with components made of pure materials such as functionalised, open, multi-layered weavings in combination with tubular steel structures, that can be separated from each other through non-destructive disassembly. This allows the components to be re-used, re-arranged and returned to the material cycle. The aim is to test the optimal combination of sustainability, separability and designability using different demonstrators.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
